Shadows

Its like the sharp piercing of a blade into you,
Only when its done will it seem true,
Its like standing frozen in the rain,
A cold, unbearable, piercing pain,
Some say when death takes away they come back to you,
Just not how you want them to,
They may not be where you want them to be,
But they are in shadows you cannot see.

When you fell or couldn't find your way,
She wanted to hold you and promise it'll be okay,
When you celebrated life's success,
Or when life seemed like a royal mess,
She wanted to make it right,
But had she, you'd have had a deadly fright.
She wanted you to find your own course,
She could only watch, of course.

Perhaps from heaven they don't look down but within,
Perhaps now they are closer than they have ever been,
Perhaps loss is not the end,
But a beginning of the closest time you'll ever spend,
What would you do better knowing they are there,
And not in some clous far away.
Would you be able to make them proud,
As they watch from shadows all around.
