Comedy of life

When I am sad I laugh,
And that's often enough,
To make me happy again,
And to wash away the pain,

For in tragedy there is always jest,
In those times a joke is best,
For perhaps to laugh at misfortune,
May turn our ills into fortune.

Life is too short to be sad,
And maybe too long to be glad,
But better glad than mad,
Is a truth that ought to be said.

So when I laugh, laugh with me,
Perhaps then you will see,
That the healing power of a smile
Is all you needed all the while.
